I had to add, the FACT, that the realization over whether to use a WHEELCHAIR or not in hindsight was poor judgement on my part BUT exacerbated, by those, who also ignored the problems, I was having re mobility.
Which leads me to add . I have said before and I repeat here. The advice and the oversight re YOU and YOUR health and wellbeing ? Do NOT think that there are those who are going to be looking after IT and supplementaries such as helping to improve YOUR mobility.
A GP who has to REFER you to those who look after such aspects ie PROVISION of WHEELCHAIRs for assessment ? Even if you ask them or point out that you need to be looking at that aspect to improve your health and well being ? WHO do nothing! OR appear to when they say nothing to you. such as ie We have passed your details over but..
and therein lies the BUT.. the waiting list the time factors for such an assessment can be days, WEEKS, MONTHS leaving YOU to either accept NO point in doing anything else. or pursuing it IF you have that time available to WAIT for days, WEEKS, MONTHS?
RE the NHS (UK) YOU are a number one in a queue and that is a FACT..
I realized and have known now for YEARS that I have to help myself NOT rely on others especially re the NHS What I did know and I need readers to KNOW is that they did SCANS on my SPINE TWO years ago.. When the answer remains. IF they did and they had the results IF I had known I could have looked at helping MY HEALTH and WELL BEING re MOBILITY by maybe saying that I should be looking at a WHEELCHAIR ..
MY CURRENT ISSUES AFTER PRIVATE SCANS REVEALED HOW BAD MY SPINE IS.. and note the IS Attempting to WALK remain MOBILE has been a NIGHTMARE.. Even moreso LATER some YEARS later when a short walk I can get away with but now that has caused my spine to become INFLAMED.. PAINFUL and CRIPPLING ..
Using a wheelchair allows me to remain mobile and have LIMITED VERY LIMITED NEED to walk.. thus helping take the strain off my spine.. BUT and once again we go back to the NHS and there will always be a BUT.. and that includes the GP..
I am left with only ONE real solution.. which I have as you read on .. now committed myself to.
After recent events where my SPINE is now to the point I am experiencing real problems when it comes to walking.. I can manage short distances before my lumbar region lower back gets extremely painful.
Deep penetrating gnawing pain. made worse when my neck now also reacts.. stiffness; PAIN. A cracking sensation most unpleasant and borderline nausea..
It can take me days after to recover to some level of ease. I can do without this.. it is now beyond the point of me tolerating it, pushing myself to the extremes..
The wheelchair will be used on public transport. OUT and at least giving me an option to pursue the outdoors rather than being stuck indoors.
I could use a POWER SCOOTER but locally OK long distance or using public transport to get from one point to another for medical appointments et does not work. Exposed on the road is not good. Other road users tend to be indifferent to such users.
I also suffer from Chronic Fatigue..I feel I can use a POWER WHEELCHAIR but the SCOOTER IS OUT. Getting anywhere is reliant on public transport and that in itself can be good bad and often indifferent.
Taxi services are some of the worst offenders re availability, being able to understand ENGLISH or to use the SAT NAV to get from A to B.. So even if I get to the CITY stop I still have some distance to go to ie the med centre ON FOOT..
USING A WHEELCHAIR non powered can work but is no longer an option. My body is getting weaker. I am experiencing not only lower limb issues BUT MY OSTEO ARTHRITIS is flaring up.. with swollen hands. VERY PAINFUL.. the hips and lower legs including the KNEES are also now becoming inflamed.
Decisions decisions..
CRITERIA.. FOLDABLE.. LIGHTWEIGHT and serviceable ..RELIABLE and that includes WARRANTIES.. AFTER SALES.. INSURANCE to cover personal liability AND also BREAKDOWN recovery et
MINIMUM 1 YEAR PARTS and where possible LABOUR..
FOLDING is preferred.. I am looking at using it to try and keep up my MOTIVITY and MOBILITY rather than ease off.. which would have me lose those two essentials.. further loss of muscle tone. muscles !
Turning circle is essential the least the better especially re the bus scenario. Use on the pavements regulated at max of 4 miles an hour tops.. needs for UK side walks a good stable capable machine.
NOT for ROAD use cept where crossing et using the correct LIGHT controlled crossings. OR where the road is clear and safe enough to cross.
Inclines some are poor at the slightest incline.. low power struggling.. I have to take that into consideration. Strong MOTORS ideally over 200 watt motors DUAL one on each wheel minimum 2 ONE central wheel? preferrred see pics below on some of my possible choices.
I like the middle wheel on the QUANTUM.. the turning circle is superb pivoting on that.. its also large and using on pavements should improve stability.. The Invacare is good for the CARER REMOTE facility. IT also has a high back and head rest. The Go G2 I like for lifting the side arms and getting off the chair side ways.. It also had two little containers under the seat that slot in for storage..

The GO G2 comes apart for transportation.
The Invacare does FOLD.. up.
WHY turning circle.. transportation ie bus et for getting in and securing re the space reserved for wheelchairs.
